Embracing Fate II - You could call it a sequel to a compilation of crap.

So herein lies the second Embracing Fate album. These albums are just compilations of music that doesn't fit into other albums and are all original. That sorta thing. Really this one has some good tracks and I enjoy listening to it a bit more than the first in the series because of the dramatic increase in the quality of the songs themselves.

One major difference in this one and the last one though is that some of these songs were written specifically to fill out this album's 10 track requirement in time for my break in December, 2007. I don't think this hurt the songs, even more so probably helped it to sound a bit better.

Let's discuss the tracks a bit.

Embracing Fate - This is one of two songs I wrote to submit to a 4-song entry songwriting competition (the other two chosen were Taking Out Anger and Together, Alone... The other one written was (below) Left Breathless). It was essentially a rushed piece just to get something with a bit of a classical feel into the competition. The singing is horrible, but I really like how the song ended up and how it represents its name.

Left Breathless - Probably my favorite song on this album. Again, this is the other song for the songwriting competition. My goal was to make a college/alternative rock love song. I ended up writing it about Fry and Leela's relationship from the T.V. show Futurama. Theirs happens to be one relationship I can... Um. Relate to. Good song though.

Learned - This song is kind of a throwback to classic (not really classical) guitar playing. It's three guitars (melody, rhythm, percussive) and features soloing and melodic notions of stuff you'd find in the movie Sweet And Low Down (starring Sean Penn), which is what inspired me to record a song like this.

Failed - This song originally started out on The Championship Battles but I removed it because it wasn't up to par. Then I got the chance to make a song for a game a friend of mine was making (A Link To The Future) and decided to give this song another try. After snazzing it up a bit, I realized it probaly was good enough to've went on The Championship Battles, but I think its place really is on the game Mouse Avoider. This is the final battle theme in the game which you can read more about here.

Superior Conflict Domination - This space was previously occupied by a song called Whore To Culture. It got removed however and replaced with this, which was supposed to be called "Odds Against" and appear on The Championship Battles. Instead, this is really where the "Domination" series will be known as having "begun". Expect to see a new Domination track on each Embracing Fate album in the future thanks to this.

Pound It - Here is a favorite among my friends. Kind of dark with a dungeon-y tension building type of feel. I really like this piece and even though the name is kind of awkward I think it's just a very special song.

Versus - This song was made to be used as a "beat" for Vince Doherty. It was hard coming up with something for him to use because I didn't know what he'd want. But eventually I was just like "Fuck it. I'll write something I'd like to hear him rap over and if it isn't good enough then so be it." and it worked. He said he would use it on his next album. I love the piano/organ.

The Sending - I was trying this song out as a cheap version of what may end up being the sound for the band "De Sent". After listening though I really didn't like it and scrapped it to obscurity. The lyrics are ancient in this song. I wrote 'em back in the freakin' day sirs.

Rain Of Serenity - This is kind of a direct mirror to Village Of Hidden Scars from the first Embracing Fate album. This one though is meant to show more happiness and brightness. I don't like how repetitive it sounds sometimes though. It is rather pretty though.

You Suck Ass - My friend Sid mentioned to me that I didn't have any offensive, straight up ass songs yet. So I made this song as offensive as possible. The lyrics were just made to get a laugh out of Sid and Saint Drizzew. I succeeded. Kind of ashamed, but nonetheless I like this song for some reason...

And that is Embracing Fate II.
