This album is the first in what is sure to be a huge series of albums that have no tie to each other and wherein the songs make no sense at all. This album is composed of ten songs that I wrote, that just don't fit anywhere else or weren't good enough to be used for other ideas. Essentially this entire album is just a compilation of B-Sides and awkwardness. I never really intended for this album to end up this way. Actually back in the day I was going to use the title 'Embracing Fate' as the name for my other album (which is now called +255). After I made EmbracingFate.com though, and I started coming up with songs that I liked but didn't really love, I decided to just make up an album, name it after the website and put all the rejected or unloved songs on that. Its odd because its like the one thing I wish bands would do, but they don't. They all hide their bad songs or their unaccepted songs and try to put their best foot forward instead of being honest with their audience and fans. Metallica for instance, came up with a bunch of songs for St. Anger (as shown in their Some Kind Of Monster documentary), and even though you KNOW the MetFans all over the world would eat that shit up, they will probably never release those songs for anyone to hear because they didn't go on the album. I just didn't want to do that because I'd rather everyone have a chance to listen to everything because you never know when that one song you wanted to throw away is going to make a difference. Let's discuss the tracks a bit. Prepare - This song was one of the first ones on the site. Just keyboard and drums, but its got a nice feel to it. I wanted to use it for some storyline project or something, but after listening to it a few times I decided it just wasn't the way to go. Arm Of The Gods - Probably my favorite song on this album. I made this as a test for drum settings after I finished The Nightmare Battles. This was the first song I used toms and other cymbals in. I've modified it a bit since then, but I really like how this song plays out and the rhythm in the background never gets tiring. Triballis - I made this song as a test. I wanted to see how fast I could make a song. It made it in under an hour and fifty minutes. I like the eastern influence in this, even if it is kind of generic. After I made it, I didn't have anything else to do with it but add it to the collection. It was made entirely on my keyboard. Of Mutants And Such - I just wanted to make a song about the X-Men without it being about the X-Men. I had in my mind, like the image of a war getting ready to break out between humans and mutants and one person just saying 'no'. "I will not fight." Sweeping Domination - This was originally going to be called Sweeping II. But I wanted to keep the 'Battles' series set up with properly ordered sequels in the songs so as an offset this became Sweeping Domination so that the Sweeping on The Championship Battles could be Sweeping II. This was just another drum test but after I finished the song, I thought it sounded good so I put the Sweeping intro at the beginning and it just fit right in. Beautiful Night - This was my idea of a cheesy porn song I used as part of a demo set to try and get a job composing for pornography. Clearly it didn't pan out. Where It Grows - Here is another drum test. I did a lot of these because after The Nightmare Battles I really wanted to expand the drums so that they sounded a bit more lively at least. This song was just a bunch of guitar lead riffs. Nothing special. Flames At Dawn - I wanted this song to just be straight up fast distorted metal. After I finished that part, I thought... Hmm. Keyboard would sound kewl over this. So I did it. It sounds okay and seems to be the general favorite on this album. Village Of Hidden Scars - Another test like Triballis for time. This one was just under two hours and was made using nothing but keyboard. Its pretty. Son Of Life - One of the first songs on EmbracingFate.com. I sent an email to Hamilton Loomis (my favorite blues guitarist) asking about mastering and he sent me back a lengthy reply personally. I was completely honored. Afterwards I felt inspired and wanted to do something bluesy and I figured, why not just brag about how awesome I am? This was before my ego was shattered. Anyway, it came out okay, and the harmonica at the beginning is special in that 'short bus' way. I re-recorded the vocals before I put it into the collection because I couldn't mix them properly like the other songs. Its a bit angrier now, but still just as fun. And that is Embracing Fate I. |
