This album really started back in like 2003 when I finished writing my first full-length song ever; Personage Of A Paradigm. Then a bit after that I wrote some more songs and found out that I was going to have access to a studio. I needed a plan and that plan was Embracing Fate. Which is what the original title of this album was set to be. I had cheesy album art and everything. It was great. My friend Shawn L. was supposed to be the lead vocalist on the album when I originally started recording it but that didn't work out. We only ended up recording two songs together, Personage and Baise D'Esprit (the original version). No drums and lousy mixing with a rushed time limit really made the first recordings worthless. The summer after that I was all set to get in some major recording by myself with the help of an old friend of mine that was essentially the best drummer I've ever seen; Miles J. We did versions of Fire Burns, Betrayal, Last Dream (which at the time was called De-Personalization) and The Rest Of Me (which later came to be rewritten into Contrast, more on that in a bit). The drum tracks from back in the day still got used (except for a version of Personage that got nixed). This is why there is a "Pale" and "Lightless" separation on the full album version. Contrast just fit in the middle for some reason and it was something of a split so it ended up being a divider too. Speaking of Contrast, the original version was called The Rest Of Me. It was written by my friend Brooke L. and myself as a collaboration to put a piece with keyboard on the album for diversity. The original is honestly way better, but due to creative differences it ended up getting scrapped and I couldn't bring myself to write alternate lyrics for the song so I just turned it into an awkward instrumental. Another song that underwent drastic changes was Baise D'Esprit. Originally it had slightly alternate lyrics and several different parts that got scrapped for the new version. The old music was used in a new song (Disdain) in this final run to fill space and get all of my original ideas on the album. The storyline really has no intent or purpose other than to refer to all the songs in each section's set, and to split the sections between real drums and sequenced drums. The song used in the storyline (Itinerary) was the first 'keyboard & drums' song I ever did and it was made specifically to go up on EmbracingFate.com. Betrayal was originally meant to just be one track and was the first instrumental I ever wrote. Together, Alone was written for my brother Randy G. who wanted to hear me do more acoustic songs. Keeping this in mind, my brother is also the reason an acoustic version of Together, Alone appears on this album (even though originally it was meant to be just acoustic, the full band version came about thanks to a songwriting contest I entered just before deciding to finish this album once and for all). This album, you could say, was four years in the making. It occupied a lot of my life and helped me to develop my songwriting talents as well as my recording skills over the years. Is this the definitive Kain Vinosec album? No. Maybe it would have been back in 2004, but at present it is a throwback to the musician I used to be. Most people would have forgotten about this album and moved on. For me it kept calling me back. The songs needed to be finished. Finally I can say that my past as a musician is resolved and now I can continue to move forward uninhibited into the musician that I will become. |
