"PNY's 16 gig flash drive. I say to thee: Fuck you."

Bought a flash drive today. This thing is a dick. $41.88 plus tax, comes with a free movie, and is 16 gigs. Here's my review of why this thing sucks...

Okay, let's start with the free movie. You get to choose from a fucking amazing amount of titles. 35. I didn't say it was a large amount, just that it was fucking amazing. Yes, they give you THIRTY FIVE titles to choose from. Of all the movies in the universe... You have to pick from 35. It's a bad selection too. I mean, Radio Flyer was on there. Seriously. Shit you not. Radio fucking Flyer is an option for download after buying this flash drive. That's balls man. Complete balls. The movie option gets worse too. It's one of those DRM movies so if you don't already have it, you have to download the security Active X control from the microsoft website (which you can't do in Google Chrome, which is what I use, so I had to intentionally open IE to do this). The movie was 1.5 gigs. Which, congrats for being all high quality and shit about it, but does it need to be that big? Torrent movies are only about 700 MB as I recall and their quality was damn fine. What's worse though, after you spend a day downloading this film (I chose Godzilla 'cause... I mean, come on. It's God FUCKING Zilla right? Why not?), get the drm shit to play it properly in Windows Media Player because nothing else will play the shit, and get it playing... You can't fastforward in any way. It's like the seek bar is permanently broken. So if you start watching the movie and want to go get freaky with your girlfriend halfway through ('cause who doesn't get turned on by God FUCKING Zilla right?) and you close WMP to do it... You gotta watch the movie from the beginning after you get done getting your freak on. Isn't that a bitch? Anyway, back to the device that cost $41.88 plus tax... The price is another complaint. Wal-Mart had two different types of these devices for sale. SanDisk and PNY. Obviously I went with PNY but it was because the free movie swayed me away from buying a brand I trust. Why would the movie matter unless these products were the exact same price? Well, that's the reason. Both of the 16 gig flash drives that Wal-Mart had were exactly $41.88. Tell me that's not fucked up in some way. I dare you. The free movie is the only thing that makes these two products theoretically any different from each other. What happened to competition in sales? Also it CLAIMS to be a 16 gig storage device. It's not though. Only 14.9 of it is useable. My 80 gig storage device had the same problem. It's like "Yeah, it's got 80 gigs on it, but you can only use 75." Why don't they put the actual fucking numbers on there? Oh, and this one is a real bitch too because you only get to use 14.9, BUT THERE ISN'T EVEN 16 THERE! That's right. My 80 gig hard drive did indeed HAVE 80 gigs. Some were just being used. Which made sense. Needs some to run right? This one is 14.9 gigs free and the used space amounts to a staggering 64 KB! Where the fuck is my other 1.1 gig? That's just straight up fucking lying. Liars suck ass. Okay, I'm done.

I've been getting kinda sidetracked. The Nothing Battles are still being worked on (almost got Random Inc - Oblivion written), but I had to play catch up for some work on another major project which involved me getting a pimp song done. Can't put it up here though.

The Photo Blog is still going to be used, it's just kinda suspended for right now until I figure out a proper way to archive it. No worries though, I'll figure it out. That's about it for now.

"Prelude - Abeyance."

I was content to sit and play FFXIII all night, but then I was like "No! Fuck that! Get to work!" and so I finished Prelude - Abeyance. It should be in the player at the top of the pages (if not, empty your browser's cache and/or reload the page). Enjoy.

"Progression."

Okay, the songs-in-a-day thing was way too ambitious. It just takes too long to do drums, fill in parts, find new presets... Ugh. There's no way. I'm not going to take my time with it or anything. It's still going to be rushed. But apparently with the way I do things now there's just no way to do shit that fast. I guess I could see it as a way of having matured... Or being hindered by my current living situation. That's definitely probably it. December is so far away... Should be able to get Prelude done tonight. No promises though. It's kind of being a bitch. We'll see...

"Progress."

Ugh. Snow sucks. The first song is still being worked on. Had some minor complications, hit some walls, etc. etc. I'm plowing through now though. Well, I was. Now I'm tired and probably going to go to sleep soon. I figured out the sounds to use for lead guitar, figured out the sounds to use for organ, at the moment I'm trying to figure out the sounds to use for some other side stuff and trying to fill in spaces in the first song. It's going well, but I wish it were going a bit faster. I'll work on it more after I get some rest.

"My feet are cold."

I'm still trying to figure out how to work the Photo Blog so that it won't have so many pictures on it. So far, nothing yet. Anyone got any ideas?

Also, I did get started on the album. Obviously I came up with the tracklisting and currently I'm trying to figure out all of the settings I want to use. Got the rhythm guitar and bass set up and recorded their parts on Prelude: Abeyance. Sounds damn good. I believe I know what I want to use for the lead guitar, but I'm still pretty clueless on the organ. I'd keep working at the moment but I'm way too tired and other complications have arisen. Would've gotten more done today but I had to do some shit before I was able to start working and that ate into my day severely. With any luck though I'll have Prelude: Abeyance done early tomorrow and I can get started on Random Inc: Oblivion. I'm anxious and excited. Especially after hearing the rough beginnings of the album. Should be damn fine. Damn fine indeed.

Oh, and if anyone can translate the entry in the Photo Blog for Friday I will award you in some way. I've always wondered what that damn thing says.

Anyway, that's about all that's going on at the moment. I'll update a lot this week as I try to figure out what to do about the Photo Blog layout and as I continue making progress on The Nothing Battles. Can't wait to finish this one. It's gonna be fuckin' tops.

"The Nothing Battles."

I'm tired of being a lazy douche. I want to do something to impress myself. Starting today I will record 7 songs in 7 days, or 1 album in 1 week. This will also be the first album I ever attempt to sell instead of give out freely (don't worry, other albums will still be made freely available in the future, but this one has to be sold). Wish me luck. This is going to be a hell of a week. The Nothing Battles are coming.

"BEST DATE EVER!"

It was awesome. I am officially in a relationship now. So, that is also freakin' awesome. Could NOT be happier!

The Photo Blog will be updated in a few with a lovely picture of my girlfriend. Wow, that is neat to say. I, Robert Smith (AKA Kain Vinosec), have a girlfriend. That's wild stuff.

"If I can dream like that just imagine what I can do in reality."

Still working on the site. Eat it. Oh, and the Photo Blog is kicking ass!

I had this dream the other night. I'm not normally one to give a damn about dreams or anything but this one really, really impacted me. I was in a very dark room, with my friend Rook and aside from this light that was between us everything was black. The light didn't even have a source. Just some random glow. She was wearing a black dress. I was wearing the same stuff I always wear. She just stood there. I started out talking to her while sitting down at this piano that was right next to her and pushed up against this black wooden wall. She was staring intently at the keys. I told her I had composed something amazing and I wanted to play it for her. So, I started playing. The music that came out was the most vivid and imaginative thing I had ever heard. My fingers moved like fluid lightning over the keys and from nowhere other instruments joined in. It was like my piano playing was controlling everything. The real draw though was the music. It was powerful and creative and intricate... I couldn't even begin to imagine where I had come up with it. It was original too, for the most part. There were bits of One-Winged Angel thrown in for some reason, but the majority of the music is stuff I had never heard before. It was long too. In the dream it seemed like it went on anywhere from 7-10 minutes. When I stopped I looked up at her to see her reaction, and then I woke up.

I need to compose music like this... Just, y'know. Without the One-Winged Angel ripoff section and without forcing Rook to listen to it. So, I will. Look forward to hearing something entirely new from me very soon.

"Here I go again on my own."

The entire site will be undergoing some major changes in the next few days. Don't be surprised if some things just aren't working. Sorry.

"Bears and wolves dicking it out..."

The Equipment page is updated. The Gallery page has been replaced with a Photo Blog. Not sure how the coding is gonna work on it, but I can already tell it's going to be a lot of fun to work on. I'll try to do a new pic every day but I can't guarantee that.

That's about it really. Life is good.

'Cause I am still... What's the word? Involved. Which makes me content and that's plenty fine.

I'm no longer officially in a relationship. That makes me quite sad.

"I met a girl."

It's true. I am now officially in a relationship again. And it's not like one of those "I can't find anyone I want so I'll just be with anyone I can find so I don't have to be alone" kinda relationships either. She's more like a "holy freakin' crap this girl is THE BOMB I totally gotta be in a committed relationship with her asap" kinda relationship... Just be happy for me 'cause I'm wicked happy at the moment.

"Guess who's back? Back again. Kain is back. Tell a friend."

Guess who's back? Guess who's back? Guess who's back? Guess who's back? Guess who's back? Guess who's back? Guess who's back? Na na na... Um. Ooops.

Sorry about that. Kinda got carried away. Besides ALinkTTF told me to do it and I agreed.

It's just so fucking awesome to have my website back up and in working order! I know it's been like a YEAR. Crazy right? I hated not being able to work on it or anything, and now that it's back up I'm dreading all the work I've yet to do. There will be lots. At the moment though, every page on the site should be working with some level of functionality. My main focus at this point is rewriting some of the older stuff like the biography and whatknot, re-arranging things to work better with my new musical ambitions, taking new pictures, and possibly working on the guestbook some more. Plus I'm sure other problems will pop up as I spend more and more time trying to get everything set just right.

In other news, I'm back in Oklahoma again. Things weren't really going very well in Kansas and my mom asked me to move back in with her so I could help her out. It's not the best situation, but it is giving me time to figure out where I want to go from here. I don't have anything left for me in Kansas, my family has their own lives so I've no real reason to stick around them, and I don't really have any other ideas. I plan to move into my own place again in December. I just hope that by then I'll have some place I want or need to go.

Also I'd like to mention that during my absence I have acquired two new 6-string guitars. I'll have photos and stats for them up as soon as I can. They both rock, though one of them needs a bit more adjusting before I can start using it on an album. I still have a lot of things to get before I can work on things the way I used to though. A mic, a 4 string bass, and an arranger keyboard are just the first things that come to mind. Anyone want to donate? HA! Kidding... But not really.

My love life has been sucking lately, but alas there is hope on the horizon...

So, I don't think it is much of a secret now that I've been working on a collaboration album with someone. My part of the work is nearly complete and hopefully before the year is over we'll have a finished album ready to rock your face off. I've literally been working on this music for a solid year. Which is crazy because I've never worked on any project that major. I'm anxious to get it finished and I've got a lot of ideas for new projects to work on as soon as it is done.

Also did a couple of minor projects this past year. A new track, Hugh's Jazz, can be found in the Unreleased Tracks section under the Extras tab. It is something my guitar teacher asked me to do and frankly I'm pretty happy with the result. The other project was a four track tribute to Final Fantasy IV. The tracks are short, but they're damn good I think. You can listen to it on the default player at the top of every page, or you can find it in the Cover Albums section under the Extras tab.

More updates will be coming all over your face very soon.
